Indigo Blue and Art can be a statementIt took me so much time to understand how much I love blue. No, not the color of the sky in summer or autumn. Not even the lovely shades of blue I saw in the Oceans of Hawaii last spring. Not even the electric blue...To be precise I love Indigo Blue.
My affair with blue is quite a long one. The earliest I remember is the 'swirl of blue' when Grandma used to make a decoction using Robin blue powder and Raniphal ( a fabric conditioner probably) in lukewarm water. She used to give gentle yet careful dip to her crisp white cotton linen sarees inside the blue water to give them a bluish glow. Much like the Neon light. Much later 'Ujala' came into market and de shelved the Robin blue. I never like the violet tinge of Ujala.
When I was a kid, my Ma had a silk saree of white 'Batik print' in Indigo blue. I used to love it whenever she used to wear that. Well, probably my dad to liked blue color. Most of my dresses he used to get from Kolkata which I used to wear year long. At least 80% used to be blue. And I got so much used to it that the trend continues henceforth...
Now also whenever I go for shopping, the first color that will attract my eyes has to be Blue!
Well another hue of the blue which is my favourite is denim blue. I had a denim skirt while I was in school and I used to treasure that. I wore it for several years. My parents used to buy most of my dresses a size or two larger then the appropriate and hem them up. Every year they used to take out the hem. Sustainability was an important part of our generation of upbringing.
I love the blue splashed in cloth, curtains, ceramics, cushion, everywhere. Works pretty much like a mood uplifter whenever I feel low....I have blue border in the cheese cloth I made out of a piece of my Grandmom's old raw cotton saree and which I am preserving since a long time to make cottage cheese. For me Blue is the color of my love. Being a true capricorn I can never confined my love in a person. I have bigger dimensions in my love spreading across so many things. And definitely one corner of my heart is occupied by Blue. I believe my blood is red ( Not even a single drop of blue blood is there and I am proud of that) but probably my heart is blue!!
